13 Glimpses Into the Ordinary

This piece was created using Sway, a new tool to me. With it, I created 13 chronological glimpses into my everyday life via photo, video, and gif. The project is one part reflective of our selfie-society and one part highlighting appreciation and beauty in the everyday routine. There's an ongoing pop culture debate about selfies being empowering, especially for women, but at the same time being reflective of an "everything revolves around me" nature, noted especially for Millenials. It's an interesting thought to ponder. My goal with it is to offer vulnerability and intimacy, as a way of opening up and being authentic. Additionally, I believe there is true beauty in the simplicity (or complexity) in the every day. Life is so busy, so fast. I try to practice mindfulness and gratitude for the small and often insignificant moments of the day. After all, what makes up your days, makes up your life. Assignment: Using Edward Picot’s “Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird” as a reference, prepare a "sketch" introduction to yourself in thirteen…whatevers. The assignment is left open-ended as a way to introduce oneself via some sort of digital artifact.
